Historical: a porcelain stone (瓷石) from San Bao village near Jingdezhen, China, quarried there and sold to the potteries as bricks; it is not sold outside China. This is one analysis, which the paper quotes from earlier Chinese studies. Another, from a Jiangxi glaze textbook, is much the same, with 17.64% Al₂O₃, 4.02% K₂O and 4.68% Na₂O, and stone from San Bao differs between producers and from year to year.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Jingdezhen Porcelain Stone, Sanbaopeng as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Jingdezhen Porcelain Stone, Sanbaopeng that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 73.7 | 10.053 |
| Al₂O₃ | 15.34 | 1.233 |
| CaO | 0.7 | 0.102 |
| MgO | 0.16 | 0.033 |
| K₂O | 4.13 | 0.359 |
| Na₂O | 3.79 | 0.501 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 0.7 | 0.036 |
| MnO | 0.04 | 0.005 |
- Equivalent weight
- 819.59
- Fired weight
- 810.33
- Loss on ignition
- 1.13%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Jingdezhen Porcelain Stone, Sanbaopeng that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Contains crystalline silica; avoid breathing the dust.
