Albite-type soda feldspar imported from India and sold by Walker Ceramics and Blackwattle Pottery; a glossier, slightly lower-melting flux than potash feldspar for stoneware and mid-fire glazes. Walker's figures date from 2007 and give no calcium, which Indian soda feldspars usually have.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Soda Feldspar (Walker BA340, India) as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Soda Feldspar (Walker BA340, India) that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 68.5 | 6.584 |
| Al₂O₃ | 18.5 | 1.048 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 0.2 | 0.007 |
| Na₂O | 10.6 | 0.988 |
| K₂O | 0.2 | 0.012 |
- Equivalent weight
- 577.54
- Fired weight
- 575.8
- Loss on ignition
- 0.3%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Soda Feldspar (Walker BA340, India) that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Walker MSDS (2019): soda feldspar >98%, with quartz listed as a hazardous component. Avoid breathing the dust.
