Sibelco ceramics product selector, porcelain tiles - feldspar (Feldspar K200, TH)

A Thai potash feldspar of the kind now sold as 'potash feldspar' in Australia; Walker Ceramics lists its BA350 as Thai and Blackwattle's SDS names 'Potash Feldspar K200BL' (Scott Chemicals). Main high-temperature flux for stoneware and porcelain glazes. The analysis is Sibelco's; that Australian shops' Thai potash feldspar is this K200 is inferred from its name and origin.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Potash Feldspar K200 (Thailand) as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Potash Feldspar K200 (Thailand) that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Potash Feldspar K200 (Thailand)
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂66.96.694
Al₂O₃18.141.070
Fe₂O₃0.160.006
TiO₂0.020.002
K₂O11.170.713
Na₂O2.960.287
Equivalent weight
601.17
Fired weight
601.17
Loss on ignition
0%

The equivalent weight is the grams of Potash Feldspar K200 (Thailand) that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: SDS for Potash Feldspar K200BL (Scott Chemicals, 2021): feldspar 90-98%, quartz 2-10%. Avoid breathing the dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.
