Mahavir Potash Feldspar
A standard material in Glazecalc's library: its oxide analysis, unity contribution and hazards.
What it is
- Kind
- Feldspars and stones
- Formula
- SiO₂ 67%, Al₂O₃ 17.5%, K₂O 11.5%, Na₂O 3%, Fe₂O₃ 0.08%, CaO 0.2%, MgO 0.2%, LOI 0.5%
- Also called
- Mahavir Feldspar, Mahavir Potash, Mahavir #63, MAHAVIR #63 Potash Feldspar, PF-01 Potassium Feldspar, Potash Feldspar (Mahavir)
- Made by
- Mahavir Minerals Ltd. (mines and plant at Beawar, Rajasthan, India); imported into North America by Laguna Clay Co. (product code MFELPF01)
- Sold in
- US
- Replaces
- G-200 Feldspar , G-200 HP Feldspar , Custer Spar
- Source
- Mahavir Minerals data sheet 'Potassium Feldspar PF-01' (undated; copy hosted by Digitalfire)
White-firing Indian potash feldspar that Laguna imports as the successor to G-200, and the potash feldspar named on Glazy's shopping list. It has slightly more K2O and SiO2 and slightly less Al2O3 than the old G-200.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Mahavir Potash Feldspar as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Mahavir Potash Feldspar that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 67 | 6.229 |
| Al₂O₃ | 17.5 | 0.959 |
| K₂O | 11.5 | 0.682 |
| Na₂O | 3 | 0.270 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 0.08 | 0.003 |
| CaO | 0.2 | 0.020 |
| MgO | 0.2 | 0.028 |
- Equivalent weight
- 558.6
- Fired weight
- 555.81
- Loss on ignition
- 0.5%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Mahavir Potash Feldspar that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Contains crystalline silica (free quartz 10-15% per the data sheet); avoid breathing the dust.
Use it in a recipe
