A calcium-alkali borosilicate frit with about 11% alumina, sold as an 'Alkaliborfritte'. keramikbedarf-online.de sells it for the resist layer in naked raku and as a flux in aventurine glazes. Expansion is 65 x 10^-7/K; it starts to soften at 830 °C and reaches the half-sphere point at 970 °C.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Vibrantz Frit 90023 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Vibrantz Frit 90023 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Vibrantz Frit 90023
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂53.743.270
Al₂O₃10.730.385

The equivalent weight is the grams of Vibrantz Frit 90023 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: Leadless frit (glass, CAS 65997-18-4). No SDS was found for this product. Similar leadless frits from Mondré & Manz and Reimbold & Strick are not classified as hazardous in their SDSs. Avoid breathing the dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.
