Soda feldspar (mainly albite) with a little extra quartz, sold by Bodmer Ton in Switzerland. Bodmer gives its melting point as 1180 °C.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Natronfeldspat (Bodmer 549) as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Natronfeldspat (Bodmer 549) that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Natronfeldspat (Bodmer 549)
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂71.67.042
Al₂O₃170.985
Na₂O90.858
CaO0.850.090
K₂O0.60.038
Fe₂O₃0.180.007
MgO0.10.015
TiO₂0.050.004
Equivalent weight
590.95
Fired weight
587.4
Loss on ignition
0.6%

The equivalent weight is the grams of Natronfeldspat (Bodmer 549) that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: Bodmer labels it GHS08 (health hazard) because the dust contains respirable crystalline silica; avoid breathing it.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.

Use it in a recipe
