A soda-potash-lime frit with no boron and almost no alumina. Its expansion is very high: 141 x 10^-7/K, with softening at 503 °C. It is used for raku, crackle and crystalline glazes and for strong alkaline blues and turquoises. Sold by Carl Jäger, BSZ, Keramik-Kraft, Hans Wolbring, Rantzauer Töpferbedarf and Ing. Lehrer (Austria).

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Mondré & Manz Frit M 1233 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Mondré & Manz Frit M 1233 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

The equivalent weight is the grams of Mondré & Manz Frit M 1233 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: Leadless frit (glass, CAS 65997-18-4). The SDS supplied by Carl Jäger for this Mondré & Manz frit says it is not classified as hazardous under CLP. Avoid breathing the dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.
