Wellington Potters Supplies (NZ), Frit compositions table

Soft, lead-free, high-calcium borosilicate frit. It was Ferro Australia's counterpart of US Frit 3134, with a little alumina, and it appears in many older Australian earthenware and mid-fire recipes. Suppliers now sell US Ferro 3134 in its place, and Walker suggests 60% 3134-2 with 40% 3124 to imitate 4108.

Walker Ceramics already listed it as no longer available in October 2016.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Ferro Frit 4108 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Ferro Frit 4108 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Ferro Frit 4108
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution

The equivalent weight is the grams of Ferro Frit 4108 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: No SDS seen. Frit is a ground glass with no free crystalline silica; avoid breathing the fine dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.

Use it in a recipe
