Leadless, low-alumina calcium-sodium borosilicate frit; the most-used frit in North American glaze recipes, mainly as a boron and calcium source. Fusion 1450 F, flow 1600 F, CTE 9.47 (Ferro 2008).
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Ferro Frit 3134 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Ferro Frit 3134 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 45.56 | 1.482 |
| B₂O₃ | 22.79 | 0.640 |
| Na₂O | 10.14 | 0.320 |
| CaO | 19.51 | 0.680 |
| Al₂O₃ | 2 | 0.038 |
- Equivalent weight
- 195.5
- Fired weight
- 195.5
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Ferro Frit 3134 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Non-hazardous glass powder per supplier SDS; avoid breathing dust.
Use it in a recipe
