Prodesco technical sheet 'Feldespato sódico FN-72', revision 5 of 14/07/2020 (copy hosted by Artbendix) (2020-07)

Spanish soda feldspar sold to potters by Prodesco and by shops that stock its range (Marphil, Kádar), and in France by Solargil as 'Feldspath sodique FN72'. Prodesco gives it as 61% albite, 7% orthoclase, 8% anorthite and 24% quartz, so it carries a lot of free silica.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Feldespato sódico FN-72 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Feldespato sódico FN-72 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Feldespato sódico FN-72
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂71.258.463
Al₂O₃17.71.239
Na₂O70.806
K₂O1.50.114
CaO0.450.057
MgO0.130.023
TiO₂0.30.027
Fe₂O₃0.20.009
Equivalent weight
713.69
Fired weight
702.99
Loss on ignition
1.5%

The equivalent weight is the grams of Feldespato sódico FN-72 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: About 24% quartz by the supplier's mineral analysis, so the dust contains respirable crystalline silica; avoid breathing it.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.

Use it in a recipe
