Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Eckalite 1 Kaolin as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Eckalite 1 Kaolin that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 46 | 277.635 |
| Al₂O₃ | 38 | 135.150 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 0.45 | 1.022 |
| TiO₂ | 0.7 | 3.178 |
| CaO | 0.03 | 0.194 |
| MgO | 0.01 | 0.090 |
| K₂O | 0.11 | 0.423 |
| Na₂O | 0.05 | 0.293 |
- Equivalent weight
- 36,263.31
- Fired weight
- 31,186.45
- Loss on ignition
- 14%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Eckalite 1 Kaolin that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: SDS (Suvo Minerals Australia, Eckalite 1 & 1 Plus, 2024): kaolin >98%, crystalline silica (quartz) <1%. Avoid breathing the dust.
Use it in a recipe
Add Eckalite 1 Kaolin to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
