A sodium-zinc alkali frit with no boron and little alumina: the classic Dutch 'alkalifritte 1510' for alkaline glazes such as turquoise copper blues, raku and crackle. Keramikos and Ve-Ka (as 'Alkali 2495') still sell it in 2026. Keramikos now also sells 'Alkali fritte 21.20' as its replacement.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Alkali Frit 15.10 (Keramikos) as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Alkali Frit 15.10 (Keramikos) that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Alkali Frit 15.10 (Keramikos)
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂63.122.100
Al₂O₃3.060.060
CaO2.810.100
ZnO8.960.220
K₂O2.830.060
Na₂O19.220.620
Equivalent weight

The equivalent weight is the grams of Alkali Frit 15.10 (Keramikos) that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: Leadless. Keramikos states that it is not classified as hazardous under CLP. Avoid breathing the dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.

Use it in a recipe
