Zinc Oxide
A standard material in Glazecalc's library: its oxide analysis, unity contribution and hazards.
What it is
- Kind
- Fluxes
- Formula
- ZnO
- Source
- Theoretical formula
Toxic. Will volatilize at 1742 F (950 C) in reduction.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Zinc Oxide as moles of each fired oxide per formula. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Zinc Oxide that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Moles | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| ZnO | 1 | 1.000 |
- Equivalent weight
- 81.38
- Fired weight
- 81.38
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Zinc Oxide that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Warning (CTM SDS 27): H400/H410 very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects; do not wash into drains.
Use it in a recipe
Add Zinc Oxide to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
