A leadless calcium-zinc borosilicate frit with a little lithium and barium, sold for matte to satin-matte effect glazes. Expansion is 70 x 10^-7/K; transformation 555 °C, softening 740 °C, half-sphere point 970 °C. Sold by BSZ Keramikbedarf (which names Vibrantz GmbH, Frankfurt, as maker) and Hans Wolbring.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Vibrantz Frit 90428 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Vibrantz Frit 90428 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 53.97 | 2.200 |
| Al₂O₃ | 12.49 | 0.300 |
| B₂O₃ | 5.68 | 0.200 |
| CaO | 13.74 | 0.600 |
| BaO | 6.26 | 0.100 |
| ZnO | 6.64 | 0.200 |
| Li₂O | 1.22 | 0.100 |
- Equivalent weight
- 244.93
- Fired weight
- 244.93
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Vibrantz Frit 90428 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Leadless frit (glass, CAS 65997-18-4) with about 6% barium oxide and 7% zinc oxide bound in the glass. No SDS was found for this product. Barium in a frit is much less soluble than barium carbonate, but test any barium glaze for leaching before it is used on food surfaces. Avoid breathing the dust.
Use it in a recipe
Add Vibrantz Frit 90428 to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
