A calcium borosilicate frit with little boron and about 12% alumina. Its high melting point makes it suited to stoneware and higher-fired earthenware glazes. Expansion is 76 x 10^-7/K; it starts to soften at 830 °C and reaches the half-sphere point at about 1080 °C. Sold by Hans Wolbring, keramikbedarf-online.de and Lehmhuus (Switzerland).

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Vibrantz Frit 90368 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Vibrantz Frit 90368 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Vibrantz Frit 90368
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂55.822.000
Al₂O₃11.840.250
B₂O₃6.460.200

The equivalent weight is the grams of Vibrantz Frit 90368 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: Leadless frit (glass, CAS 65997-18-4). No SDS was found for this product. Similar leadless frits from Mondré & Manz and Reimbold & Strick are not classified as hazardous in their SDSs. Avoid breathing the dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.
