A calcium-potassium borosilicate frit sold as a 'Basisfritte' (base frit). With about 12% alumina, its chemistry is close to a complete glaze and suits clear earthenware and low stoneware bases. Expansion is low, 56 x 10^-7/K; it starts to soften at 865 °C and reaches the half-sphere point at 1050 °C.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Vibrantz Frit 90176 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Vibrantz Frit 90176 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 56.35 | 4.001 |
| Al₂O₃ | 11.95 | 0.500 |
| B₂O₃ | 16.32 | 1.000 |
| CaO | 9.86 | 0.750 |
| K₂O | 5.52 | 0.250 |
- Equivalent weight
- 426.56
- Fired weight
- 426.56
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Vibrantz Frit 90176 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Leadless frit (glass, CAS 65997-18-4). No SDS was found for this product. Similar leadless frits from Mondré & Manz and Reimbold & Strick are not classified as hazardous in their SDSs. Avoid breathing the dust.
