A potassium-sodium borosilicate frit with a lot of alkali, from Vibrantz's Frankfurt range. It is the usual German frit for raku and other alkaline low-fire glazes. Expansion is 150 x 10^-7/K (20-400 °C); it starts to soften at 645 °C and reaches the half-sphere point at 740 °C.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Vibrantz Frit 90167 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Vibrantz Frit 90167 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Vibrantz Frit 90167
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂43.931.800
Al₂O₃8.280.200
B₂O₃16.970.600

The equivalent weight is the grams of Vibrantz Frit 90167 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: Leadless frit (glass, CAS 65997-18-4). No SDS was found for this product. Similar leadless frits from Mondré & Manz and Reimbold & Strick are not classified as hazardous in their SDSs. Avoid breathing the dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.
