A low-expansion calcium borosilicate frit: expansion 42 x 10^-7/K, transformation 650 °C, softening 710 °C. Keramik-Kraft sells it as 'Calziumborat Fritte' and as a replacement for colemanite. It has far less boron and far more silica than a true calcium borate frit.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Reimbold & Strick Frit A 3021 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Reimbold & Strick Frit A 3021 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 51 | 4.760 |
| Al₂O₃ | 10 | 0.550 |
| B₂O₃ | 26 | 2.094 |
| CaO | 10 | 1.000 |
| ZrO₂ | 3 | 0.137 |
- Equivalent weight
- 560.77
- Fired weight
- 560.77
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Reimbold & Strick Frit A 3021 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Leadless frit (CAS 65997-18-4). The Reimbold & Strick SDS seen for a similar leadless frit (A 3249 P, 2017) does not classify it as hazardous. Avoid breathing the dust.
Use it in a recipe
