Orthoclase
A standard material in Glazecalc's library: its oxide analysis, unity contribution and hazards.
What it is
- Kind
- Feldspars and stones
- Formula
- K₂O•Al₂O₃•6SiO₂
- Also called
- Potash feldspar (theoretical)
- Source
- Theoretical formula
Ideal formula of the mineral.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Orthoclase as moles of each fired oxide per formula. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Orthoclase that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Moles | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| K₂O | 1 | 1.000 |
| Al₂O₃ | 1 | 1.000 |
| SiO₂ | 6 | 6.000 |
- Equivalent weight
- 556.65
- Fired weight
- 556.65
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Orthoclase that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Warning (CTM potash feldspar SDS 49): H373 may damage the lungs through repeated inhalation, as it contains 5–10% fine crystalline silica; avoid breathing the dust.
Use it in a recipe
Add Orthoclase to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
