A barium-zinc frit that contains 11% lead oxide; the maker lists it among its lead frits. Keramik-Kraft sells it simply as 'Zinkbarium Fritte'. It is used for matte and crystalline glaze effects. Expansion is 119 x 10^-7/K, with softening above 870 °C.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Mondré & Manz Zinc-Barium Lead Frit M 4067 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Mondré & Manz Zinc-Barium Lead Frit M 4067 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 29.6 | 1.001 |
| Al₂O₃ | 5 | 0.100 |
| BaO | 37.8 | 0.501 |
| ZnO | 12 | 0.300 |
| PbO | 11 | 0.100 |
| K₂O | 4.6 | 0.099 |
- Equivalent weight
- 203.21
- Fired weight
- 203.21
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Mondré & Manz Zinc-Barium Lead Frit M 4067 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
This material contains lead oxide (PbO).
Hazards: CONTAINS LEAD (PbO about 11%) and barium (BaO about 38%). Keramik-Kraft lists H351 (suspected of causing cancer), H360FD (may damage fertility or the unborn child), H362 (may harm breast-fed children), H372 (damages organs through prolonged exposure) and H410 (very toxic to aquatic life). It is not suitable for schools or hobby use without proper controls. Lab-test any glaze made with it for lead and barium release before it is used on food or drink surfaces.
Use it in a recipe
