Imerys calcined Cornish china clay (about 55% mullite, 45% glass). Fine grades replace part of the raw clay in high-clay glazes to cut shrinkage and crawling, and raise the maturing temperature slightly.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Molochite as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Molochite that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Al₂O₃ | 42 | 13.765 |
| K₂O | 2 | 0.710 |
| SiO₂ | 54 | 30.034 |
| TiO₂ | 0.07 | 0.029 |
| CaO | 0.07 | 0.042 |
| MgO | 0.3 | 0.249 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 1.3 | 0.272 |
- Equivalent weight
- 3341.77
- Fired weight
- 3341.77
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Molochite that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Fine dust; may contain traces of crystalline silica.
Use it in a recipe
Add Molochite to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
