Higher-lead frit (1 PbO to 1.5 SiO2) sold by Potclays and Bath Potters 'for artistic glazes where food safety is not required'. Firing range 860-1040 °C (Potclays).
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Lead Sesquisilicate Frit (Potclays 2262) as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Lead Sesquisilicate Frit (Potclays 2262) that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| PbO | 68.52 | 1.000 |
| TiO₂ | 3.07 | 0.125 |
| SiO₂ | 28.41 | 1.540 |
- Equivalent weight
- 325.74
- Fired weight
- 325.74
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Lead Sesquisilicate Frit (Potclays 2262) that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
This material contains lead oxide (PbO).
Hazards: Lead frit: toxic if the dust is breathed in or swallowed. Fired glazes can release lead into food and drink; UK suppliers say low-solubility glazes are not food safe by default and ware must be metal-release tested. Sold explicitly as not for food-contact ware.
Use it in a recipe
