Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Hawthorn Bond Fireclay as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Hawthorn Bond Fireclay that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 50.2 | 48.721 |
| Al₂O₃ | 31.2 | 17.844 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 1.5 | 0.548 |
| TiO₂ | 1.95 | 1.424 |
| K₂O | 0.5 | 0.310 |
| MgO | 0.2 | 0.289 |
| CaO | 0.25 | 0.260 |
| Na₂O | 0.15 | 0.141 |
| P₂O₅ | 0.15 | 0.062 |
- Equivalent weight
- 5831.33
- Fired weight
- 5073.25
- Loss on ignition
- 13%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Hawthorn Bond Fireclay that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Contains crystalline silica (quartz); do not breathe the dust.
Use it in a recipe
