A plastic, cream-burning southern Ohio stoneware clay, air-floated to 200 mesh. Mostly a body clay; in glazes it supplies alumina and silica with some iron and titanium.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Goldart as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Goldart that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 55.2 | 24.905 |
| Al₂O₃ | 28.8 | 7.657 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 1.4 | 0.238 |
| TiO₂ | 1.8 | 0.611 |
| CaO | 0.2 | 0.097 |
| MgO | 0.4 | 0.269 |
| K₂O | 1.9 | 0.547 |
| Na₂O | 0.2 | 0.087 |
- Equivalent weight
- 2710.84
- Fired weight
- 2439.76
- Loss on ignition
- 10%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Goldart that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Contains crystalline silica (quartz); do not breathe the dust. Contains some sulfur.
Use it in a recipe
Add Goldart to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
