A 325-mesh calcined kaolin made for paints and sold by US pottery suppliers as their calcined kaolin. Use it in place of part of the raw kaolin in high-clay glazes to cut drying shrinkage and crawling.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Glomax LL Calcined Kaolin as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Glomax LL Calcined Kaolin that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 53.16 | 96.244 |
| Al₂O₃ | 44.4 | 47.369 |
| Fe₂O₃ | 0.42 | 0.286 |
| TiO₂ | 0.94 | 1.280 |
| K₂O | 0.41 | 0.473 |
| Na₂O | 0.3 | 0.527 |
- Equivalent weight
- 10,877.82
- Fired weight
- 10,836.48
- Loss on ignition
- 0.38%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Glomax LL Calcined Kaolin that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Contains crystalline silica (quartz); do not breathe the dust.
Use it in a recipe
