Flint
A standard material in Glazecalc's library: its oxide analysis, unity contribution and hazards.
What it is
- Kind
- Silica
- Formula
- SiO₂
- Source
- Theoretical formula
Dust hazard from free silica.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Flint as moles of each fired oxide per formula. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Flint that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
Flint has no flux oxide, so its unity contribution is per formula as written.
| Oxide | Moles | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 1 | 1.000 |
- Equivalent weight
- 60.08
- Fired weight
- 60.08
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Flint that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Danger (CTM SDS 51): H372 causes damage to organs through repeated inhalation; 25–50% fine crystalline silica; avoid breathing the dust.
Use it in a recipe
Add Flint to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
