Dense, lead-free, zircon-opacified white frit (about 12% ZrO2) for white and pastel earthenware glazes at 1040-1100°C (Walker; expansion 59 x10^-7). Walker Ceramics has sold Frit 9113 in its place since 2022 (listed for a time as 9117), but no analysis of 9113 is published.

Oxide analysis and unity formula

Glazecalc has the analysis of Ferro Frit 9146 (zircon white) as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Ferro Frit 9146 (zircon white) that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.

Oxides in Ferro Frit 9146 (zircon white)
Oxide Weight % Unity contribution
SiO₂56.444.045
Al₂O₃4.10.173
B₂O₃13.530.837

ZnO1.10.058
ZrO₂12.230.427
Equivalent weight
430.65
Fired weight

The equivalent weight is the grams of Ferro Frit 9146 (zircon white) that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.

Hazards and safety

Hazards: No SDS seen. Frit is a ground glass with no free crystalline silica. It contains zirconium and zinc oxides in the glass. Avoid breathing the fine dust.

Glazecalc shows the hazard wording as its record gives it. It is not a full risk assessment, so read the safety data sheet from your supplier. Before you handle any glaze material, read Safe mixing and ventilation and Glaze safety at home.

Use it in a recipe

Add Ferro Frit 9146 (zircon white) to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
