Lead-free, high-soda, high-expansion frit with a little boron. It was Ferro Australia's counterpart of US Frit 3110 and is named in many Australian recipes for copper turquoise, manganese purple and crackle glazes (Walker gives 980-1080°C, expansion 96 x10^-7). Walker Ceramics now supplies imported US Ferro 3110 in its place, and some shops still sell under the 4110 name, so check which frit you have.
Walker Ceramics listed it until February 2020, but no longer by March 2021.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Ferro Frit 4110 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Ferro Frit 4110 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 69.21 | 3.010 |
| Al₂O₃ | 4.18 | 0.107 |
| B₂O₃ | 2.67 | 0.100 |
| CaO | 6.12 | 0.285 |
| K₂O | 2.53 | 0.070 |
| Na₂O | 15.29 | 0.645 |
- Equivalent weight
- 261.31
- Fired weight
- 261.31
- Loss on ignition
- 0%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Ferro Frit 4110 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: No SDS seen. Frit is a ground glass with no free crystalline silica; avoid breathing the fine dust.
Use it in a recipe
