High-alkali, almost calcium-free alkali borosilicate frit with a little zinc and fluorine; high expansion, used for crackle and alkaline-color glazes. Fusion 1400 F, flow 1500 F, CTE 9.98 (Ferro 2008).
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Ferro Frit 3269 as weight percent of the raw material. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Ferro Frit 3269 that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
| Oxide | Weight % | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| SiO₂ | 51.23 | 3.101 |
| B₂O₃ | 15.06 | 0.787 |
| Na₂O | 10.97 | 0.644 |
| K₂O | 7.42 | 0.286 |
| CaO | 0.41 | 0.027 |
| Al₂O₃ | 12.4 | 0.442 |
| ZnO | 0.97 | 0.043 |
- Equivalent weight
- 363.64
- Fired weight
- 358.18
- Loss on ignition
- 1.5%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Ferro Frit 3269 that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Contains about 1.5% fluorine, which can be released during firing; ventilate the kiln. Otherwise a low-hazard glass powder.
Use it in a recipe
