Boric Acid
A standard material in Glazecalc's library: its oxide analysis, unity contribution and hazards.
What it is
- Kind
- Boron sources
- Formula
- B₂O₃•3H₂O
- Source
- Theoretical formula
Water soluble.
Oxide analysis and unity formula
Glazecalc has the analysis of Boric Acid as moles of each fired oxide per formula. The unity contribution is the moles of each oxide in the amount of Boric Acid that holds 1.0 mole of flux, which is how Glazecalc adds it into a recipe's unity formula.
Boric Acid has no flux oxide, so its unity contribution is per formula as written.
| Oxide | Moles | Unity contribution |
|---|---|---|
| B₂O₃ | 1 | 1.000 |
- Equivalent weight
- 123.65
- Fired weight
- 69.62
- Loss on ignition
- 43.7%
The equivalent weight is the grams of Boric Acid that hold 1.0 mole of flux. The fired weight is what is left of that after firing.
Hazards and safety
Hazards: Danger (EU classification, Nexchem SDS): H360FD may damage fertility or the unborn child; avoid breathing the dust. (Etimine USA's US sheet: Warning H303/H361d.)
Use it in a recipe
Add Boric Acid to a recipe in the Glazecalc calculator to see what it does to a glaze's unity formula.
